How long is the longest that you go between meals? Most people today spend the VAST majority of our day eating, but is this natural or ideal?

Throughout human history humans have endured periods of time where food was not readily available and fasting was a regular part of daily life. As a result, our bodies have adapted to be able to undertake periods of fasting that far exceed what the majority of us living in industrialized societies have ever experienced. 

Although, it may seem like a survival advantage to have ubiquitous access to food, studies are now clearly demonstrate the myriad of benefits that can be achieved by undertaking strategic intermittent fasts.
